Fishing Reports

Lower Madison - Fri, Mar 4th

Fishing on the Lower Madison was very good yesterday.  Midges popped in the morning and the fish responded.  It sounded like an awful lot of fish were up, including some big ones.  When the sun came out the surface feeding ended but good nymph fishing continued.  Standard midge dries, like Griffith’s Gnats and Parachute Adam’s will take surface feeders.  Sometimes it helps to drop a small pupa off the back.  When fish are only feeding subsurface, they’re still eating the same nymphs they have since winter started.  Crayfish or a stonefly nymph trailed by something pink is a pretty safe bet.
