Lower Madison - Thu, May 5th
Mother's Day Caddis were hatching as far up as greycliff yesterday afternoon, and water clarity had improved to about 16 inches. Up in the Beartrap is usually best for good caddis dry fly fishing, so hopefully water clarity will be good enough by the time the caddis are hatching in the canyon. With stormy weather in the forecast look for continued baetis hatches. Nymphing with caddis and mayfly nymphs trailed behind the usual worm or crayfish has been steady. Fishing an emerger caddis behind the dry can often improve your catch during a caddis hatch. If the weather gets really nasty later this weekend then streamer fishing might get pretty good.
