Lower Madison - Thu, May 12th
Yesterday afternoon there were good numbers of bugs on the Lower Madison and visibility was acceptable but for the most part the fishing was subsurface. Eggs and Prince Nymphs did better than Elk Hairs, even with lots of caddis out and about. The Lower did climb a bit and then leveled off and so far today it’s staying level. If these conditions continue the fish should notice the caddis and get on them. Even if conditions change to less favorable, this is probably your best chance at fishing Mother’s Day Caddis this year. We know of several people, including a couple of us from the shop, that are heading out to the river this evening to try and get in a little dry fly action before the big water comes.
