Missouri River - Thu, Jun 2nd
The flows at Holter have come down slightly in the last 24 hours to around 14000. The river has been fishing very well over the last week just so long as you're not on it during a flow increase. When that happens, it still fishes but there is usually a lull for an hour or two as the fish adjust to the increase in volume. This is more of a factor in the Dam-Craig section of the river. The tribs like the Dearborn and Prickly Pear were starting to come down and clear but then it's been raining again up here for about 8 hours now....the forecast calls for more. So it looks like the Dam - Dearborn stretches remain the best bet if you're looking towards the weekend up here.
People have been getting fish on a wider range of flies most days but we've been fishing mostly smaller bugs on 4X & 5X, two split shot, and 10-11' leaders. Not to say that a wire worm won't get 'em because it really does in some places. There are bugs out (BWO, Match Browns, and Midges) but the dry fly fishing just isn't there yet. If you want to catch a lot of good sized fish right now, this is a hard place to beat but you do need a boat and to fish with someone who knows where the high water holding areas are for your best bet.
