Gallatin River - Sun, Jul 24th
The Gallatin has really begun fishing well the last week or so. The flows are still unseasonably high, but we’re below 2,000cfs which is fantastic. We had a rainstorm this week that dirtied the river up, but it’s fine now. Clarity has been bouncing around 1½ and 2½ feet, and that’s just fine for the Gallatin. I heard some reports of good dry fly fishing during the Goldenstone and Yellow Sally hatches. Attractor dries are working well now even on the lower clarity days. Nymphing is the way to go though. A stonefly nymph with a beadhead or worm trailing is a dynamite combo right now.
