Fishing Reports

Upper Madison - Fri, Jun 3rd

The Upper Madison in the walk and wade water has been in pretty good shape, especially compared to most of the other rivers around.  It’s not gin clear, nor are you likely to see pods of rising fish, but it has continued to give up some solid nymph and streamer fishing.  You might do well on smaller bead heads if the water is especially clear but be sure to have some big junk.  Try some big rubberleg flies and streamers in either bright colors or black.  As long as the flows out of Hebgen remain stable and it stays cold enough that the tributaries between the lakes don’t completely start to dump in mud, the Upper should remain a decent option.  Do keep an eye on the flows as things change so fast this time of year.  Warmer weather later this week could really give the snow melt a good kick and muddy things up again.  So be it, we have to get through run off eventually.
