Fishing Reports

Gallatin River - Sat, Aug 20th

Spruce Moths are still making for some excellent fishing in Gallatin Canyon.   An Elk Hair Caddis is still worked great for me yesterday, but I like to fish the fast water in between the runs.  If you’re fishing the long flat pools you may need something more specific, but you’ll probably catch more fish if you just move.  There are also some caddis out and the fish will eat them as well as the moth’s.  Our customers have been telling us all summer that they’ve been catching more browns than normal in the Canyon.  Our customers are smart.  I caught several yesterday, including one fish that I measured at 16 ½ inches.  The nights are getting colder so we’re not sure how much longer the moths will last so you might as well enjoy them while they’re out.  Remember that these things are incredibly destructive.  It’s are duty to make sure that the find something positive in the carnage.
