Fishing Reports

Area Lakes - Sat, Jun 25th

Thank goodness we have so many excellent lakes in the area with the flows the way they are.  Ennis and Quake are both dirty from the Madison, other than that reports are pretty solid.  People are still doing well up at Hyalite.  It sounds like the inlet area remains the most consistent.  We’ll try to get up there this week to give you a first hand report.  It probably won’t be too much longer before most of the fish move up into the creek.

Hebgen is an excellent option for larger fish.  Hatch fishing remains confined to midging fish during calm mornings and evenings.  It sounds like evenings have been a little more consistent but remember that’s all conditional.  People are still catching fish on crayfish patterns, leeches, buggers, and bait fish imitations.  The best bite for this type of fishing has been early, but overcast conditions will extend good fishing into the afternoons.

We keep hearing decent reports form Harrison but also hear about people getting skunked as often as not.  If you go, go early and have a good selection of chironomids and damsel fly imitations.  Other area lakes are no doubt fishing well also.  In general damsels are going on a lot of the lower elevation lakes and some of the smaller lakes in the backcountry should be easier to get to if they trail in isn’t flooded out.  Even with all the high water, many of us lake guys have been fishing as hard as ever.  There have been enough good options that it makes it hard to decide where to go.
