Fishing Reports

Area Lakes - Sun, Jun 5th

We’re still hearing good reports from Hebgen.  Fish are eating leeches and chironomids and even rising to midges during calm mornings and evenings.  Quake is still pretty dirty and so is Ennis from what we’ve been hearing.  We’ve had a few people through the shop heading to Cliff and Wade; it sounds like the road to those two beauties is open.  The fish there should be on pretty much the same game plan as Hebgen, but maybe a little spookier.  Hyalite still has ice as of yesterday afternoon, but there was enough open water for half of Bozeman to be out there in an armada of drift and pontoon boats, plus plenty of bait fisherman fishing set lines from the shore.  It doesn’t sound like it fished that great but that might be because the fish were a little freaked out by all the attention they were getting.  Henry’s Lake over in Idaho has produced some mixed reports, but the fish are big and they like leeches when they’re hungry.  We talked to one of our guides who fished Canyon Ferry yesterday for carp.  There were lots of fish but they weren’t really on the feed.  A couple of fish were landed; a couple of more were hooked.  With the high water that’s here and even more on the way, it’s really good to have so many still water options around.  Please don’t put away your fly rods until the river comes down, you might have too long a wait this year.
