Upper Madison - Thu, Dec 29th
If the wind dies down a bit the upper should fish great, especially up in the walk and wade water and between Hebgen and Ennis. Midge hatches have already been good and should continue with all the warm weather we’re having. One thing to keep in mind is that the fish up there can find some calm pockets to rise in even when it’s pretty windy. This doesn’t necessarily make it any easier for the angler but at least you might get to see some fish up even in more adverse conditions, within limits of sanity.
Between the lakes should fish well with junk flies above midge stuff and also with streamers. Fish will also rise in this stretch, but sometimes they aren’t trout. I once spent twenty minutes working a midging whitefish just below the damn.
