Upper Madison - Wed, Aug 10th
Early morning and evening fishing has been best on the Upper Madison. Early morning pmd's have been good and evening caddis hatches are still bringing some fish to the surface. Hoppers, ants and a variety of attractor patterns will catch a few fish throughout the day, but afternoons have been a bit slow. Spruce moths are out flying around in the morning up around Lyons and Palisades, so have some large caddis or spruce moth patterns can be good for that. When the fish aren't looking up try nymphing with lighter colored stonefly nymphs trailed by small mayfly or caddis nymphs. Nocturnal stones are starting to hatch, so look for them early in the morning.
