Upper Madison - Fri, Jul 22nd
We've had boats up there the last few days and we'd say that the river has been fishing " not great." We are getting some fish on Yellow Sally and Caddis dries here and there but not with much consistency. Nymphing with stonefly nymph and mayfly droppers has been the most reliable. The boat traffic is concentrated in the Lyon's to MacAtee stretches so you can get away from the masses and on some "fresher" fish by sticking to the middle and lower reaches of the river. As flows continue to drop, the water between Varney and Ennis should be coming into fine shape for nymphing.
