Brown Trout have moved up into the Madison from Hebgen Lake. Crowds of fisherman have been lined up in the more popular runs. Swinging soft hackles in riffles or nymphing deeper holes is the best shot at harassing spawning browns. Streamer fishing is only good when the weather is especially nasty and fresh fish are moving up from the lake. Sunny days make for tougher fishing.
The Firehole River has been fishing well with Baetis dries and nymphs. The Northeast corner of the park is getting cold and fishing has been tough. Crowds are gone, so the fish probably aren’t as spooky as a few weeks ago.
