Yellowstone River - Thu, Aug 4th
The river is slowly dropping, but it's very manageable right now for most folks that know how to row a boat. The wade fishing is still tough unless you have a boat to get from place to place. Clarity is improving to just a bit over 2' now and the fish are hungry, near the banks on inside corners and seams. There are spruce moths out and on the water in Livingston and above, plus you can get some fish on dries in the riffles and skinny flats. But nymphing and dead drifting buggers is still the most effective means of finding fish from the boat. Running a big dry over the riffles just might find a few big browns and fishing stonefly nymphs and lightning bugs is a sure way to find fish in the slower water around runs and pools.
